Let's talk about your project

Located deep within Mount Aspiring National Park, the Rough Creek Swing Bridge is a modern, backcountry structure designed to provide reliable access across the alpine-fed Rough Creek. The project forms part of a broader effort to upgrade visitor infrastructure in the valley, complementing recent improvements to the popular Mount Aspiring Hut and surrounding tracks.

Frame Group was engaged by the Department of Conservation to lead the design and delivery of the bridge, applying current New Zealand best practice standards for long-span swing bridges in remote, high-risk environments. The structure was engineered for durability, seismic resilience and flood resistance, taking into account the volatile river flows that characterise the area. Load testing was conducted to confirm performance and safety ahead of public use.

This was a highly technically demanding site, requiring practical experience in remote logistics and a strong understanding of DOC’s safety, design and maintenance expectations. Frame Group’s role extended from early planning through to construction oversight, ensuring a seamless result in one of New Zealand’s most scenic and treasured backcountry landscapes.
