Feasibility Study and Options Assessment
Frame Group worked alongside Roam Consulting and mana whenua to deliver a comprehensive technical feasibility assessment for the proposed 31 km Ōkataina–Tarawera–Rotomahana trail network. The vision is to create a multi-day walking experience of Great Walk standard, offering a culturally immersive journey through one of New Zealand’s most iconic landscapes.
The study included route and condition surveys, identification of required infrastructure such as boardwalks, jetties, bridges and lookouts, and detailed cost modelling to support funding pathways. Frame Group also contributed to the development of a phased implementation plan and participated in a series of hui and workshops to ensure alignment with hapū aspirations and cultural values.
The project represents a strong collaboration between technical experts and iwi partners, laying the foundation for a world-class visitor experience.
