This small but impactful project focused on improving community access from Breve Street to the beach in Mangawhai. A locally formed track had become unsafe due to severe erosion, and maintaining the existing route would have required extensive and costly retaining walls.
Frame Group worked with Kaipara District Council to realign the accessway and design a timber-framed staircase down a steep sandbank. The staircase was carefully engineered to withstand potential sand slippage and included embankment stabilisation measures to ensure long-term safety and durability.
The solution provides a safer, more sustainable access point for the community while respecting the natural coastal environment.
