After Cyclone Gabrielle triggered a major slip on Mount Parihaka, a large section of the Drummond Track was destroyed. Frame Group was engaged by Whangarei District Council to assess the damage and evaluate reinstatement options for this important urban walking route.
Through a detailed options assessment, Frame Group presented multiple design responses, each weighing environmental, cultural and cost considerations. The preferred solution required sensitive alignment around archaeological sites and involved collaboration with iwi and arborist contractors. The proposed design includes boardwalks to mitigate the risk of Kauri Dieback spread and boxed steps to safely traverse the steep terrain.
