Let's talk about your project

The Hump Ridge Track is a remote and rugged 61 km circuit in Western Southland, known for its dramatic coastal scenery, alpine ridges and historical heritage. To support its elevation to New Zealand’s 11th official Great Walk, Frame Group led a major track upgrade focused on safety, accessibility and visitor experience.

Working within sensitive alpine and coastal environments, the team designed improvements to over 20 km of track. This included realignment of muddy, hazardous sections, construction of boxed steps to improve traction, and installation of boardwalks across wetland areas. The solutions were designed to handle extreme weather conditions, reduce maintenance and support long-term sustainability.

The upgrade carefully balanced Great Walk standards with the track’s wild character, making the route safer and more enjoyable while preserving its natural appeal.
